Dr. Shannon O’Neill is an accomplished and award-winning higher education leader and advocate. She has led the founding, development and growth of several major organizational initiatives in regional, national and global organizations and has served in executive roles including as an Executive Director for Workforce and Professional Education, a University Dean, and the founding director of a University Center for Women.
Dr. O’Neill has been recognized by professional associations and published academic articles and invited talks on topics including eating disorders, sexual harassment, addiction, social justice, and experiential education. While serving as a Dean at Brown University, Dr. O’Neill served on the Board of Directors of the Mental Health Association of Rhode Island. Previously she served as the co-chair and a founding member of a national fair-trade organization and has served as a board member on several other state and regional organizations.
Dr. O’Neill has a passion for engaged learning. She facilitates academically grounded travel experiences to examine gender equality in the Nordic countries and immigration and human rights issues in the American Southwest. She is an accomplished trainor in cultural diversity and sexual harassment prevention issues as well as in the addiction treatment field, working with harm-reduction practices.
Dr. O’Neill received her Ph.D in Social Psychology from The University at Albany, State University of New York.
